Many crashes, in particular pedestrian fatalities, are concentrated on TxDOT roadways in El Paso. Between 2018 and 2021, 181 pedestrians were killed on TxDOT roadways alone in the city.

Policies, responsibilities, countermeasures, public information, and funding can be coordinated by this plan and integrated into future regional efforts involving the County and MPO, expanding the reach to El Paso’s neighbors and southern New Mexico.

By focusing on the needs of the most vulnerable users, El Paso and its partners will enhance the overall safety of the entire transportation system.

The client seeks to close a critical gap in the circuitous rail-to-trail system, connecting the existing Westside Trail and Westside BeltLine Connector.

Alta is designing the 1.3-mile portion, which includes native plantings, fiber duct bank, trail furnishings, lighting, retaining walls, vertical structures connecting to adjoining streets, and green infrastructure.

The project incorporates sustainable and equity-focused design, which will serve as a catalyst for job creation, inclusive transportation, climate positive action, and affordable housing in the area.

An emergency closure of the West Seattle Bridge displaced 100,000 daily auto trips to farther-flung bridges, causing debilitating congestion to lower income neighborhoods and worsening mobility for everyone.

In tandem with a public information campaign, Alta rapidly created a high-profile marketing and outreach campaign to encourage the use of travel options.

The campaign supported people who live and work in West Seattle in shifting their trip mode to reduce congestion and improve economic mobility. The full program was offered in nine languages, based on the language needs of the program area.

The City of Toronto wanted to provide high-quality cycling connections between the University, local trails, and transit to improve the safety and comfort of cyclists and pedestrians.

Alta designed several protected intersections and associated cycle tracks and in-boulevard trails, including one fully-protected bi- directional intersection, with bi-directional cycle tracks intersecting on all legs. All provide setback bicycle crossings, protected within a corner refuge island, with forward queueing area for cyclists.

Alta’s design solutions incorporate novel universal design principles, and green infrastructure including green gutters, a bioretention planter, and a landscaped boulevard.

Preliminary design through detailed design, including close of tender and construction administration

The airport is experiencing significant growth that is impacting the transportation system. It wants to improve access for employees and passengers.

Transportation demand management strategies can help reduce vehicle trips and associated congestion. They can also move passengers and employees to transit and other travel options with excess capacity while improving job access.

Alta’s recommendations will help the airport reduce employee drive alone trips by 10-percentage points while increase passenger use of transit by 10-percentage points. They will also improve job access and opportunities for lower-income workers.

The Austin region is one of the fastest growing in the country. The growth is stressing the transportation system while gentrification is displacing residents and forcing them to move farther from jobs and other activities.

A regional TDM strategy can impact how and when people travel to encourage them to use modes and routes that are less congested. It can also provide more transportation options to low-income travelers.

The TDM program includes strategies to improve school access, which are being implemented. It also has programs to reduce congestion on major corridors, increase transit use, and expand job access.

Alta led development of the regional TDM program and is assisting with its implementation.

The City of Carlsbad’s TDM ordinance passed in 2019 required new developments and tenant improvements exceeding 110 average daily trips to prepare and implement a TDM plan. The city needed help developing detailed guidance and launching a citywide TDM program.

A TDM handbook that details program requirements and guidance for developers subject to the ordinance, a support program that assists developers with plan preparation and implementation, staffing resources to provide plan review as well as monitoring and evaluation.

The TDM program contributes to reaching the greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals laid out in the city’s climate action plan.

Over 3,000 Inglewood residents work at LAX Airport. The City is less than 5 miles from the employment center at LAX and commutes are often over 60 minutes long, regardless of mode.

Alta developed and implemented a microtransit program for resident/ employees at LAX that took a data-driven approach to passenger satisfaction and on-time performance. The program reduced commute times from over 60 minutes to 22 minutes.

Iride Inglewood is the only free or low-cost option for residents/employees to reach LAX in under 25 minutes. The program operates a fully electric fleet and has reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions as well as VMT for a historically underserved community.
