In need of replacement, this runway and airfield support facilities supports strategic space launch, surveillance, and operations for the United States and United Kingdom, located in the South Atlantic Ocean between Brazil and Africa.

DRMP provided full surveying and mapping/geospatial services for over 1-square-mile of rugged, volcanic terrain using static LiDAR, Unmanned Aerial Systems, and subsurface utility engineering (SUE).

We were allotted with one pallet position on the aircraft to fit all survey equipment and two weeks on the island to perform a design-quality survey of over a square mile of rugged terrain.

DRMP provided surveying and mapping services for the full-depth replacement of the 10,000-LF runway at the Ascension Island Auxiliary Airfield.

Built in the 1960s, the antiquated I-40/I-77 interchange was designed to provide capacity for a maximum of 5,000 vehicles per day. Today, the interchange sees more than 70,000 vehicles a day.

DRMP provided full construction engineering inspection (CEI) services to monitor the daily operations to make certain it is completed in accordance with the design plans and specifications.

The design-build project will continue the interstate widening on I-77 from a four-lane to an eight-lane facility, improving traffic congestion and enhancing safety for the interchange.

DRMP provided CEI services to make sure safety protocols are being followed on the jobsite, documented the project and the design specifications are correctly executed.

Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI)

Challenge: The SR 528/SR 436 Interchange serves as the northern entrance to the Orlando International Airport (OIA) and required additional capacity, which included 2.25 miles of expressway widening and major reconstruction updates.

DRMP served as the Engineer of Record to widen the interchange from four to six lanes and design seven new bridges. The project team also included enhanced aesthetics common to CFX roadways.

The interchange was successfully updated to increase capacity for the area’s millions of visitors. Newly added semi-directional flyovers help travelers successfully navigate this busy interchange.

DRMP provided transportation design services and coordinated with multiple stakeholders to reconstruct and widen the interchange.

SR 528 needed to be widened from I-4 to McCoy Road to relieve congestion by improving capacity for 85,000 commuters and serving as a major thoroughfare between the Orlando attractions and Orlando International Airport.

DRMP provided transportation design services for the phased construction of 8 miles to provide inside and outside widening, lane additions, bridges (new, widening and replacement), toll facilities and intelligent transportation systems.

The project successfully improved capacity and safety between Orlando’s tourist corridor and the Orlando International Airport.

DRMP served as Engineer of Record for the phased construction.

There’s a need to widen the I-4 at SR 557 interchange to accommodate travelers and alternate modes of transportation. The client also sought to construct a wildlife passage for animals in the area.

DRMP provided transportation design services that realign almost two miles of I-4, converts the interchange to a diamond, widens SR 557 from two to four lanes, and constructs two wildlife crossing bridges.

DRMP’s innovative alternative technical concepts saved $1 million in client costs. Our solution accommodates future roadway updates and prioritizes the reconnection of wildlife in the area.

DRMP provided design-build services working alongside the contractor and other stakeholders.

Providing access to a major thoroughfare (Dr. Calvin Jones Highway) to accommodate a large development while minimizing impacts to through traffic along the thoroughfare and incorporating a planned Town Road extension through the property.

RKA worked with NCDOT and the Town of Wake Forest to develop a quadrant left turn design to provide multiple access points for the development while minimizing the number of turning movements at each intersection along Dr. Calvin Jones Highway (NC 98 Bypass).

Grove 98 provides a mixed-use development for the Town that constructed the extension of Ligon Mill Road to provide additional north-south connectivity in this area of Wake Forest.

RKA served as the traffic engineer and transportation design team lead for the project.

Coordination with several stakeholders at over 250 bus stop locations requires review by multiple agencies. Existing right-of-way is often minimal at these locations and requires unique solutions.

Meeting with the City of Durham and other municipalities to work on a special process that expedites reviews has proven beneficial to keeping timelines met and moving projects to construction.

The improvements made to each bus stop location, whether through revisions or meeting ADA requirements, are crucial in providing safe and accessible routes to the GoTriangle transit network for the whole community.

RKA actively serves as the Prime Engineer on multiple projects with GoTriangle and also manages survey sub-consultants including DRMP, KCI, & CES Group.
